The 2020 Census is just around the Corner. The 2020 Census Committee and the City of Pico Rivera will be hosting Census events leading up to the actual Census Day to help residents understand the importance of being counted.
In an effort to bring more attention to the upcoming 2020 Census, the Census Committee will be hosting a Census Night at Salsa Grill on Tuesday, March 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. On this night, attendees will have an opportunity to ask City staff questions about the Census while being able to order from the Salsa Grill Happy Hour Menu. The event is free with a fee for the food and beverage.
The City of Pico Rivera’s 2020 Census Committee will kick off their campaign on Saturday, April 4 in conjunction with the City’s Easter Eggstravaganza from 10 a.m. to noon at Pico Park.
The City of Pico Rivera is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to achieve a complete and accurate count of the U.S. population in 2020 and an accurate count of residents in the City of Pico Rivera. This is a chance for the residents to learn more about the Census. City staff will have informational flyers available provided by the Census and will be able to answer any question or concerns related to the 2020 Census. For those that stop by, there’s an opportunity to win small prizes just by asking questions. Also, there’s a chance to enter a raffle to win one of three big Easter Baskets that will be given away at the conclusion of the event.
The 2020 Census is a count of those living in the United States and is mandated by the U.S. Constitution. The data can affect more than $675 billion per year in federal funding to state and local governments. The 2020 Census questionnaire will be one of the easiest in history with respondents able to fill out the Census questionnaire online. To ensure that the City of Pico Rivera is represented in this year’s Census, the City will be offering Census Days at the Pico Rivera Senior Center for residents who need assistance filling out their 2020 Census forms.
City staff will be available to assist residents during these Census Days, answering questions about the forms and providing internet access to those who wish to submit their forms online. Residents will need to bring their Census reminder postcard or form, and names and birthdates of everyone residing on their property. All submitted forms will be entered into a raffle drawing.
The Census Days at the Senior Center will be held on Tuesday, April 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and Tuesday, April 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
During the last Census held in 2010, it was reported by Census officials that the City of Pico Rivera was under counted. Many federal programs rely on the data received from City residents through the Census to fund programs such as Children’s Health Insurance, Emergency Services, Housing Rehabilitation Programs, School Programs – funding for the El Rancho Unified School District, Senior Programs, Special Needs Programs and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
