Gustavo V. Camacho was elected to the Pico Rivera City Council in November 2009. Prior to being elected to the council, Gustavo served as planning commissioner for the city.
Currently, Gustavo is the Executive Director of the Whittier Boulevard Merchants Association, which represents over 200 businesses and 1 million square feet of retail and office space within the Whittier Boulevard Shopping District. Gustavo has worked closely with various cities and their council members in the San Gabriel Valley while working as the Economic Development Director for then Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero.
Councilmember Camacho serves as director of Eastmont Community Center. He is also the co-founder of the Greater East Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and the East Los Angeles Residents Association, a civic organization promoting the creation of the 89th city in Los Angeles County. He is a member of several advisory committees in law enforcement, community design master plans and I-710 and I-5 Freeway designs.
As a member of the Rio Hondo College Citizens Oversight Committee, Gustavo has advocated to assure bond funds are being used properly for the school’s new building projects and that local businesses are hired. Councilmember Camacho believes in improving local commerce by assisting small businesses. He has worked with the state legislature in creating and introducing state bills to improve our local economy. Gustavo has travelled to Sacramento and Washington DC in support of regional business and economic growth efforts. Gustavo sits on the California Contract Cities Association legislative committee.
Gustavo has volunteered with many fundraising activities to benefit community centers, Sheriff Youth programs and schools such as “Feria de Libros,” a family literacy program. He enjoys volunteering his time to speak to college students about their careers.
Gustavo attended San Diego State University and received a Bachelors Degree in Urban Planning. Councilmember Camacho has received many awards in leadership, integrity and ethics.
