Partial Carmenita Road Closure Tonight at Interstate 5
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will fully close a segment of Carmenita Road in both directions, from the Union Pacific Railroad tracks to Molette Street, overnight on Thursday, May 15 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- The southbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp will be CLOSED;
- The southbound I-5 Firestone Blvd. on-ramp will be open;
- Motorists will have access to eastbound Firestone Blvd; Detour signs will be posted.
The work involves stem and soffit concrete pours for the new Carmenita Road Bridge; concrete pump trucks will be active within the Carmenita Road closure. Upcoming I-5 Lane and Ramp Closures at Carmenita Road
Overnight, Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20
Northbound I-5 - 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
up to two northbound I-5 lanes will be fully closed from just north of Valley View Avenue (near Alondra Boulevard) to Rosecrans Avenue. Northbound I-5 traffic is reduced to one lane.Southbound I-5 - 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
the southbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp is closed.
The work involves concrete pours in the freeway's center median between k-rail, or concrete barriers from Alondra Blvd. to Carmenita Road. The work is part of the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) HOV Widening and Improvement Project to construct one carpool and one general purpose lane in each direction, realign and upgrade adjacent frontage roads, and reconstruct bridges from the Los Angeles/Orange County line to Interstate 605.

Carmenita Road Interchange Project: Look-Ahead Schedule for 2014/2015
The following dates associated with the Carmenita Road Bridge Project are approximate and based on the current construction schedule. Schedules are subject to change.
· Current work:
Northbound I-5 on-ramp realignment (Freeway Dr. frontage road to Excelsior).
· Summer 2014
- three northbound I-5 lanes near Carmenita Rd will shift to the right. Note: Lane shift must be coordinated with work stages of adjacent I-5 Corridor Projects.
· July 2014
-- April 2015 (approx. 10 months) - roadway realignment (near Carmenita Rd.)
· July 2014
-- Dec. 2015 (approx. 18 months) - northbound I-5 on-ramp at Carmenita Rd. closes. New Reduced Speed Limit "Slow for the Cone Zone"
The posted speed limit along the I-5 South Corridor, from the Los Angeles/Orange County line to Interstate 605, has been reduced from 65 miles per hour to 55 mph. Signs are posted alerting motorists of increased traffic fines in highway construction work zones. Caltrans is partnering with the California Highway Patrol to enforce the newly reduced speed limit to enhance the safety of motorists and workers in this highway construction work zone.
