Pico Rivera’s 60th Anniversary celebrations begin with the 60th Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration on Sunday, January 28 with a journey back in time at the Pico Rivera Historical Museum, a fully refurbished train depot from 1887 that serviced the town of Rivera.
The 60th Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration will take visitors back more than 150 years to the 1880s and the very birth of the Rivera and Pico communities. It will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
The free event will include costumed re-enactors, historical artifact displays, free hands on activities, and live music and performances. Tours of the historic train depot will be available throughout the day. The highlight of the event will be the burying of the 60th Anniversary Time Capsule. The time capsule will be buried behind the Historical Museum and will not be opened until the City’s Centennial Celebration in January, 2058.
“What better place to host the kick-off celebration than at the Historical Museum,” said City Manager René Bobadilla. “This building is filled with the City’s history, and our residents will have the opportunity to see firsthand what it took to make this City so great.”
The Pico Rivera Historical Museum is located at 9122 Washingon Boulevard.
Parking for this event will be located off-site and will be marked with directional signage.
