DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, THIS EVENT WAS RESCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20.
While Halloween is still weeks away, there will be one group of local trick-or-treaters who can’t wait until October 31.
On Saturday, October 20, volunteers from the Pico Rivera Christmas Basket Committee will be in Pico Rivera neighborhoods to Trick-or-Treat for Hunger. They’ll be going door to door in neighborhoods close to Smith Park collecting non-perishable food items for distribution to qualifying Pico Rivera families during the holiday season.
Residents who would like to donate to the effort are asked to provide items such as cereal, peanut butter, pasta and canned food items. Simply put them in a bag or box and set them by your front door no later than 8:30 a.m. on the morning of October 20. Collection will continue until approximately 12:30 that afternoon. Residents who live further away from Smith Park are still encouraged to participate by dropping off their food donations to Smith Park between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. that Saturday. Volunteers are also needed to help collect and sort the donations. They will meet at the Smith Park Pool Deck prior to 8:30 a.m. to receive an assigned route.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring a wagon or similar type of cart to help with the collection. For more information about donating items or volunteering for this campaign, call the Department of Parks and Recreation Office at 562.801.4430.
