Public Input Sought on Metro Eastside Light Rail Project

TheLos Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is hostingfour meetings this month to receive public comment on draft environmentaldocuments prepared for the proposed Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 Project. Residentswill have an opportunity to attend an open house event scheduled for Saturday,September 27 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pico Rivera Senior Center, 9200Mines Avenue.

Eachof the open houses/public hearings includes an opportunity to review the Draft EnvironmentalImpact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (Draft EIS/EIR) document, viewdisplays and hear a presentation summarizing the results of the environmentalanalysis. Verbal and written comments will also be accepted during thehearings.

TheDraft EIS/EIR evaluates several alternatives for connecting communities east ofLos Angeles toMetro's regional transit system. Two proposed routes are being considered forextending the Metro Gold Line light rail. One would travel along State Route 60to Peck Rdin South El Monte; the other would travel along Washington Blvd to Lambert Rd in Whittier. Otheralternatives include not extending the rail line as well as possibleenhancements to existing transit services and/or additional bus service.
