Spring Bulky Item Collection

The City of Pico Rivera, in collaboration with NASA Services, will host a Spring Bulky Item Collection on five consecutive Saturdays, April 11 through May 11, 2024, based on your regular trash pick-up days. (Please see the schedule below)

This free, large-item curbside pickup is specifically for residential customers who need to dispose of large items that cannot be picked up as part of normal collection.

Eligible items for curbside bulk item pickup include:

  • Furniture such as chairs, sofas, and mattresses
  • Appliances such as refrigerators, ranges, washers, dryers, water heaters, dishwashers, and similar plumbing and small appliances
  • E-waste such as computers, telephones, televisions, stereo equipment, and other electronic devices Yard waste such as tree branches, scrap wood, or bundles up to 4 ft. long
  • Clothing
  • Other non-hazardous items

All items must be able to be moved by two-person crews or they will NOT be collected

NOT acceptable items include:

  • All hazardous wastes or materials such as oil, solvents or paints
  • Construction debris such as concrete, asphalt, lumber or drywall
  • Equipment or vehicles
  • Truck or automobile tires

***All items must be placed at the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled day of collection.***

Please consider donating all reusable or repairable items to your local thrift stores and non-profit organizations, as these items can help benefit those in need in our local community.

    Residents who have Bulky Items are now able to call for a special bulky item collection to accommodate large items that do not fit into the residential service carts. Residents receive 10 FREE On-Call Bulky Items collection per calendar year, July 1 to June 30.  To request this service, please call 1.888.888.0388.

Solid Waste Collection

NASA Services is responsible for picking up all trash, recyclables, and organic waste in the City of Pico Rivera. NASA Services is dedicated to helping the City of Pico Rivera achieve zero waste to landfills. Mandatory Recycling

Mandatory Commercial Recycling – AB 341

Businesses, including schools, that generate 4 cubic yards or more of commercial solid waste per week, and multi-family dwellings that are 5 units or more, shall arrange for recycling services.

Mandatory Organics Recycling – AB 1826 and SB 1383

All homes, multifamily complexes, and businesses are required to participate in mandatory organics collection programs currently offered. No food, food-soiled paper, cardboard, mixed paper, yard trimmings, or wood may be placed into the trash container. All organics must be properly placed into either the blue recycle bin or the green organics bin.

Customer Access to Education & Recycling Bins – AB 827

Businesses must provide organics and recycling containers at the front-of-house to collect waste generated from products purchased and consumed on the premises.

In order to comply, recycling containers must be placed adjacent to trash containers so they are visible, easily accessible, and clearly marked. Model signage is available at calrecycle.ca.gov. Search on “Education/Outreach Toolkit”

Roll-Off Bins and Large/Bulky Items Pick Up

You may also call or visit the NASA Services website if you have any questions regarding renting dumpsters (roll-off bins), special pick-ups or pick-up of large items, recycling, and general solid waste questions.

Roll-off bins require a permit before NASA will issue the bin. If the bin is going to be placed on your private property, you must obtain a permit from the Planning Division by calling (562) 801-4476. If the bin is going to be placed at the curb in the street, an encroachment permit needs to be issued by the Public Works Department. The permit application is available here and an be emailed to kvasquez@pico-rivera.org. Once we issue the permit you call NASA Services back with the permit number and they will take care of the rest. The encroachment permit is free for residents and $125 for contractors and businesses.

Trash, recycling, and green waste will be collected as regularly scheduled except for the following holidays:

WEATHER CANCELLATIONS

Inclement weather does NOT automatically cancel street sweeping for the day. Please adhere to your street’s parking sign to avoid receiving a Street Sweeping Citation.  For cancellation inquiries relating to inclement weather, please call 562.801.4413.

The City of Pico Rivera provides its residents with street sweeping service in an effort to beautify and enhance the aesthetics of our 137 miles of City streets and alleyways. Our goal is to serve you by maintaining a healthy, safe and clean environment for our community.

Weekly sweeping of all residential and commercial streets in the community began in October of 2011. The new sweeping schedule helps reduce the amount of pollutants, helping keep local rivers and the ocean cleaner and healthier. Frequent street sweeping also improves the appearance of our local roadways.
