The City’s Public Works Department is getting ready to join their counterparts across the country in recognizing National Public Works Week from May 18 to May 24.
Sponsored by the American Public Works Association every year since 1960, the event seeks to raise awareness about the importance of the role of Public Works in maintaining and improving the systems and services that support healthy, safe and comfortable communities.
This year’s theme “People, Purpose, Presence” highlights three cornerstone ideals that motivate our Public Works team to serve the residents of the City of Pico Rivera. While much of the work is done behind the scenes, our Public Works Department silently serves the City through several everyday routines that keep the City running.
To ensure that the quality of life meets the high expectations of the City’s residents, the Public Works Department oversees several aspects of the City’s infrastructure, including the engineering, maintenance, and operation of streets, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, parkways, medians, alleys, public parking lots, traffic signals, and traffic markings. The Department also manages facility maintenance, street sweeping, trash and recycling services, and water system maintenance.
The City will highlight our Public Works team during the week of May 18 with pictures posted to our Social Media accounts.
