The City of Pico Rivera is collaborating with the cities of Downey, Paramount, Bellflower,
Lakewood, and Long Beach – to develop the RoseWood Corridor Project.

The RoseWood Corridor Project is a transformative initiative to reimagine Rosemead and Lakewood Boulevards, a 28-mile route connecting the San Gabriel Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, as a safe, modern, and multimodal north-south corridor. Often used as an alternative to the I-605 freeway, this corridor experiences significant congestion and safety challenges, particularly for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders. In partnership with the Gateway Cities Council of Governments (GCCOG), Shared Use Mobility Center (SUMC), and surrounding jurisdictions, the City of Pico Rivera is leading efforts to develop a conceptual vision for the southern segment of the corridor, from Pico Rivera to Long Beach. The project seeks to improve safety for vulnerable road users, enhance regional mobility, promote climate resilience, and support equitable community development while building on existing Master Planning efforts along the corridor.

A key goal of the project is to implement early-action or phased improvements that can deliver visible results ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. These pilot enhancements may include traffic signal synchronization for more efficient and reliable bus service, landscaping, striping, and light infrastructure upgrades that create a more comfortable and accessible environment for all users. By providing seamless connections to Olympic venues, celebration hubs, housing, and key destinations across the region, the RoseWood Corridor will strengthen north-south mobility and connect communities from the mountains to the sea while establishing the foundation for the next generation of infrastructure beyond the games. This effort complements Pico Rivera’s broader vision for a vibrant, people-centered transportation network that reduces congestion, supports economic growth, and delivers long-term environmental and equity benefits.
