Last month, students from several schools in the El Rancho Unified School District were recognized by the District’s Board of Education for entering the Million Word Club.Students enter this prestigious club when they read a million words or more throughout the school year.

Students in the District are required to read 15 to 20 minutes daily during the regular school day, and are encouraged to read more after school, as part of the District’s Accelerated Reader Program. The goal of the program is to practice reading at the appropriate level, choose books with an emphasis on interest, increase attention span, and ability to focus, and to improve reading, writing, vocabulary, and spelling. The ultimate goal of the program is to develop lifelong lovers of reading.

As a result of this program and perhaps the students love of reading, 43 students entered the Million Word Club for the 2022-23 school year and were recognized for their achievement. This was nearly double the previous school year’s total of 22 students.

To the students who achieved this feat, CONGRATULATIONS on your hard work and for your love of reading. For the teachers, THANK YOU for encouraging all of your students to pick up a book and to let their imaginations soar through reading.
