All residents in the City will now need to dial the full 10 digit phone number +1.562.xxx.xxxx to make any calls within the 562 area code regardless of whether the number is a landline or cell phone. Other local area codes that are impacted by this change include 626, 949, and 951. This change was done to allow for the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline to use a three-digit phone number of 988 to be used anywhere in the U.S. beginning on July 16, 2022.
