In a recent move to enhance public safety and community trust, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Pico Rivera Station began its first Civilian Community Academy last month. Aimed at strengthening the Sheriff’s relationship with residents, the Citizens Academy fosters greater transparency and builds trust between the local police and the community by providing residents with a deeper understanding of law enforcement operations. These programs also offer an opportunity for citizens to engage directly with deputies, ask questions, and learn about the challenges and complexities of modern policing.

The Pico Rivera Station continues to roll out a series of community outreach programs, including neighborhood patrols and town hall meetings. Like the Citizens Academy, these initiatives are designed to increase transparency, improve communication, and create safer, more connected neighborhoods. The deputies of the Pico Rivera Station are also undergoing specialized training, such as the Autism Awareness Training held in March, to better handle mental health crises, with the goal of providing more compassionate responses in challenging situations.

As part of the continued efforts to combat crime in the City, the community is encouraged to stay vigilant and participate in the “See Something, Say Something” campaign. By reporting suspicious activity or behavior that may pose a threat to public safety or security, residents, businesses, and the Sheriff’s Station can all work together to prevent crimes or emergencies from escalating. The assistance of our community plays a crucial role in keeping the City safe.
