Gateway Council of Governments Energy Action Award

The Gateway Cities Energy Action Awards are designed to recognize cities for their actions to improve energy efficiency and sustainability and for motivation to continue these efforts.

In 2021, Pico Rivera won the Silver Level Gateway Cities Energy Action Award for our continued participation in the working group meetings and completing at least one Energy Efficiency Project in the City of Pico Rivera.

In 2022, the City of Pico Rivera was amongst six cities that won the Gold level energy action award in the Gateway City Council of Governments and among 19 total winning cities.

The City was recognized for its efforts to:

  • Collaborate with the Energy Working Group, Southern California Regional Energy Network, and the Institute for Local Government
  • Discuss daily activities related to energy efficiency and new innovative projects
  • Signup for comprehensive energy analysis and benchmarking

In 2023, the City of Pico Rivera won it’s second Gold level energy action award through the City’s collaborative efforts. The Office of Sustainability highlighted several accomplishments undertaken across departments through the City, including:

  • Installation of Heat Pump Water heaters at City facilities
  • Completion of a Comprehensive Energy Analysis
  • Application and Award of an Energy Efficiency or Sustainability Grant
  • Project indicative of Engagement, Equity, and Empowerment

The California Contract Cities awarded Pico Rivera with the John Todd Award at its annual Fall Educational Summit recognizing the City for its successful partnership with the California Choice Energy Authority (CalChoice) in launching Pico Rivera Innovative Municipal Energy (PRIME). August 2021

SCAG Sustainable Communities Award

The Southern California Association of Governments honored PRIME in partnership with the City of Lancaster for exemplifying the regional growth vision principles of mobility, livability, prosperity, and sustainability. January 2018

The SCAG Sustainability Award recognized the City of Pico Rivera for its PRIME Power Choice Program submission under the Carmen Ramirez award for Equity category. This award honors plans and projects that are integral to accomplishing regional goals while advancing equity and facilitates growth of healthy, livable, sustainable, and economically resilient communities. May 2024 

City of Pico Rivera Proclamations

In 2019, the City of Pico Rivera and PRIME issued a proclamation to support the work of Energy Upgrade California in reducing demand on the State of California’s electric grid, using more renewable energy resources, and building energy efficiency and knowledge into community actions. Our alliance will help on our path of sustainability in meeting energy and climate action goals.

In 2021, a proclamation was issued to declare Pico Rivera’s commitment to taking Climate Actions in honor of Earth Day: mandatory climate and environmental literacy training for 100% of City of Pico Rivera Staff; lowering Pico Rivera’s carbon emissions in half by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050; and integrating climate and environmental justice into all community decision making.

In 2023, the City received a proclamation that recognized the City’s expansion of the Office of Sustainability.
